Temperature effects on carbon mineralization of sinking copepod carcasses

چکیده
Copepod carcasses are prevalent in marine ecosystems and might represent an important component of the sinking flux particulate organic carbon ocean. The extent to which copepod contribute biological pump is controlled by different environmental factors, including temperature. However, effect temperature on longer-term kinetics mineralization not well-studied. We conducted laboratory experiments quantify associated with cosmopolitan Acartia tonsa through aerobic microbial respiration at 5 temperatures (20, 16, 12, 8, 4°C). Microbial rates were positively correlated characterized initial short lag-phase, a rapid increase maximum rate, subsequent gradual decline rate degradation. On average, 50% total was mineralized within 6-12 d 20°C, versus >60 4°C. During incubations, most occurred ambient seawater, likely fueled dissolved leaking from into surrounding seawater. Extrapolating measured turnover suggests that constrained surface In contrast, 4°C, can reach deep ocean before they have been completely degraded. Hence, low-temperature regions, may agent for export pump.

Temperature effects on sinking velocity of different Emiliania huxleyi strains
The sinking properties of three strains of Emiliania huxleyi in response to temperature changes were examined. We used a recently proposed approach to calculate sinking velocities from coccosphere architecture, which has the advantage to be applicable not only to culture samples, but also to field samples including fossil material. Our data show that temperature in the sub-optimal range impacts...

متن کاملTemperature sensitivity of organic carbon mineralization in contrasting lake sediments
Temperature alone explains a great amount of variation in sediment organic carbon (OC) mineralization. Studies on decomposition of soil OC suggest that (1) temperature sensitivity differs between the fast and slowly decomposition OC and (2) over time, decreasing soil respiration is coupled with increase in temperature sensitivity. In lakes, autochthonous and allochthonous OC sources are general...

15 صفحه اولRhizosphere priming effects on soil carbon and nitrogen mineralization
Living roots and their rhizodeposits affect microbial activity and soil carbon (C) and nitrogen (N) mineralization. This so-called rhizosphere priming effect (RPE) has been increasingly recognized recently. However, the magnitude of the RPE and its driving mechanisms remain elusive. Here we investigated the RPE of two plant species (soybean and sunflower) grown in two soil types (a farm or a pr...
